E.D. Evans is a lifelong poet. Part of the 1980/90s NYC ‘s
East Village art scene, E.D. Evans (aka Edie Evans) has
performed spoken word poetry at legendary NYC venues such as
The Nuyorican Poets Café, Brownies, and The Knitting Factory.
After a hiatus from performing due to, well, life—her spoken-word
pieces now pop up on social media. Now available, the audio book for
Time For My Generation to DIE, and the UK/EU/Int’l release of Old West.
Evans lives in Tucson, Arizona with a fine array of critters
and a madly talented multi-instrumentalist.
“Out of the ephemeral detritus of stories long abandoned, yet inescapable like shadows, E.D. Evans spins a glorious web of percussive attack. Each new verse compelled me to read on. I wanted to shout lines out to strangers on my commute. Why are you not reading this, too?”
“Her powers of observation are keen, and her ability to coalesce a cluster of metaphors into brilliant truths will astonish you.”
“Yes, the title of this book is worth the cost alone, but E.D. Evans is more. Her poetry can cut your head off with a blade so fine, you’ll still be laughing as your head hits the floor. She’s clever, brutal and touching.”
“Evans’ rhythms verge on near-limerick beat, with the blunt jovial punches of a freshly-minted Iggy Pop lyrical attack on a variety of vain-glorious targets…”
“The book is a profound search for the meaning of life and self-acceptance, inviting the reader to ponder life’s complexities and find peace in oneself.”
“The photos of things people have left behind pair so perfectly with Evans’ words. Together, they show just how easily the world will go on existing without us—which is somehow both haunting and comforting.”
“Grainy, sepia-toned images of dilapidated desert landscapes paired with Evans’ sparse, sharp words take the reader on a journey toward faithlessness, death, or perhaps, peace. I’ll be pondering it for some time.”
“Evans’s writing is vivid and deliberate, and the heart of this story is incredibly humbling, but it feels like an awakening. I read this and immediately went back to the beginning. It’s a story that deserves time to absorb. I know I’ll be going back to read it again.”
“E.D. Evans’s beautifully-poetic words help us understand the power of knowing that our mortal trappings of belief systems, knowledge, and intellectualism are unimportant in the grand scheme of life. “Old West” is a book that needs to be reread often.”
